Proudly Sharing Jesus & Serving Those On The Plains
Real People, With Real Problems, Serving A Real God, Who Makes A Real Change
Cowboy Church 101
WHAT IS
COWBOY CHURCH?
At Southern Plains there is an open door for folks
to come just as they are and where they are.
Our mission is to share the grace, love and hope
given by God through Jesus Christ by focusing on those within the western culture while at the same time striving to live Christ-like lives and serving God.

OUR TARGET
WHY HAVE
CHURCH THIS WAY?
By practicing the idea of cowboy church,
we work to remove many of the barriers
that may stop folks from seeking Jesus.

We believe that God has created all of us uniquely
and that our passion for the western lifestyle
is one of those things.
By combining these aspects of our lives
while being centered in our faith,
we are better able to share
the good news of Jesus Christ to those we meet.
Statements of faith
GOD
There is only one God.
He always was
& always will be.

He reveals Himself to us as
Father, Son & Holy Spirit.
Holy
spirit
The Holy Spirit draws all people to Jesus
& resides in all who receive Him as their Savior.

We are guided by the
Holy Spirit through life’s journey to Heaven.
Salvation
We are separated from God
by our sin & the
wages of sin is death.
Jesus died on our behalf.
Whoever follows Him will have eternal life.
Salvation is a gift
of God’s grace through our faith in Jesus.
Church
The church is the
body of Christ (Believers).

Working together to spread the message & love
of Jesus while serving
those around us.
Jesus came to earth to save mankind from sin.

This was done through His
death, burial & resurrection.

Restoring our relationship with God for all
who believe in Him.
Jesus
Bible
God’s Word for mankind, illuminated by
the Holy Spirit.
It contains everything needed for our daily life
& for walking closer
with our God.
Baptism
Baptism is a demonstration of what has spiritually taken place in the life
of a believer of Jesus.
It represents the resurrection of both
Jesus & of all believers after they leave this world.
Followers of Jesus are members of the Kingdom of God, yet are presently walking on this earth.
We are merely strangers
on this Earth,
eagerly looking to the
coming kingdom at the end of this age with the return of Jesus Christ.

Leadership
Pastor
Jim & Cathy Strickland
As a Florida native, Jim has spent a lifetime immersed in ranching and day-working with his family. Upon graduation, he served his country in the US Army. Cathy grew up in a military family, living all over the world. They met and were married in 1985.
Cathy came to know Christ as a teenager while attending a youth conference and Jim while stationed in Germany.
After prayer and thoughtful consideration, they both entered full-time ministry in 1993 upon leaving the service. Over the years, the couple has served churches in Germany, Florida, Texas, and Alabama.
Elders
Richard Smith
As a faithful member &
quality conversationalist, Richard is serving as an active member of our elder committee

With over 57 years of marriage to Mrs. Sherrell, they've dedicated nearly four decades to ministry.
As a proud United States Veteran, their legacy of faith and family extends to their children, who are actively engaged in our congregation.
Howard Griggs
We maintain a belief in seeking wisdom and guidance from
those within our community
& our Southern Plains family.

Howard & his wife, Mrs. Judie, are no strangers to their home here on the plains.
They never cease to leave you with a smile after a wholesome conversation.
If you’re lucky you might even get a conversation about his racing!
